چکیده

In this paper, a new frequency-domain approach to measure and correct the static nonlinearity error of analog-to-digital converters is analyzed. The nonlinearity is measured as a linear combination of the Chebyshev polynomials, whose coefficients are derived via frequency-domain analysis, and corrected with a nonlinear equation solving method, which makes use of the parametric form of the static characteristic. The proposed methodology is especially suited for dithered converters, due to their particular features of smoother nonlinearity and very high resolution. Both simulation and experimental results are reported, quantifying also the achieved increase of effective bits.

Frequency Domain Analysis for Integral Nonlinearity Measurement in A/d Converters with Dither

The paper examines the problem of achieving a fast measurement of nonlinearity for a dithered converter. It is shown that, since dither removes small-scale systematic errors, measuring the remaining large-scale (smooth) nonlinearity can be efficiently achieved via a fast frequency domain test, formerly analyzed by the authors for conventional converters without dither. The test appears especial...

Static and Dynamic Nonlinearity of A/D Converters

The dynamic range of broadband digital system is mostly limited by harmonics and spurious arising from ADC nonlinearity. The nonlinearity may be described in several ways. The distinction between static and dynamic contributions has strong theoretical motivations but it is difficult to independently measure these contributions. A more practical approach is based upon analysis of the complex spe...

Subtleties in the averaging of a class of hybrid systems with applications to power converters

High-frequency dither signals are commonly used to implement modulation schemes in power electronics converters. These systems represent an interesting class of hybrid systems with external excitation. They have a rich dynamical behavior, which cannot be easily understood intuitively. Despite the common use of averaging techniques in power electronics, it was only recently proved that a dithere...

Analysis of Integral Nonlinearity in Radix-4 Pipelined Analog-to-Digital Converters

In this paper an analytic approach to estimate the nonlinearity of radix-4 pipelined analog-to-digital converters due to the circuit non-idealities is presented. Output voltage of each stage is modeled as sum of the ideal output voltage and non-ideal output voltage (error voltage), in which non-ideal output voltage is created by capacitor mismatch, comparator offset, input offset, and finite ga...

Using an Interpolation Method for Noise Shaping in A/d Converters

Digital post processing of output data is often used to enhance the ADC Effective Number Of Bits (ENOB). In particular, it can be used to partially recover ENOB restrictions caused by nonlinearities. The paper deals with advantages and disadvantages coming from the application of a proposed nonlinearity correction method based on the Bayes theorem. It allows the reduction of large scale errors ...
